UBER December 2024 Valuation Model and Risk Framework

This UBER valuation model includes a valuation, financial forecasts, segment breakdown, and detailed operating model. Assumptions can easily be adjusted by the user.

Uber Technologies Inc provides ride hailing services. The Company develops applications for road transportation, navigation, ride sharing, and payment processing solutions. Uber Technologies serves customers worldwide. The company has recently come under pressure as Waymo has started operations in San Francisco and Miami. Tesla FSD v13 release a couple weeks ago also could have contributed to selling pressure.

Uber Technologies Inc. (Uber) is a technology platform that uses a massive network, leading technology, operational excellence, and product expertise to power movement from point A to point B. It develops and operates proprietary technology applications supporting a variety of offerings on its platform. Uber connects consumers with providers of ride services and merchants, as well as delivery service providers for meal preparation, grocery, and other delivery services. It also connects consumers with public transportation networks. The company also provides freight and logistics services. The majority of its sales come from the US and Canada.

Operations

The company operates in three reportable segments: Mobility (nearly 55% of sales), Delivery (roughly 35%), and Freight (some 15%).

The Mobility segment's offering connects consumers with a wide range of transportation modalities, such as ridesharing, carsharing, micromobility, rentals, public transit, taxis, and more?helping customers go almost anywhere they need. The segment also includes activity related to its financial partnership offerings.

The Delivery segment's offering allows consumers to search for and discover local restaurants, order a meal, and either pick-up at the restaurant or have the meal delivered. In certain markets, Delivery also includes offerings for grocery, alcohol, and convenience store delivery as well as select other goods. The segment also includes advertising.

The Freight segment leverages its proprietary technology, brand awareness, and experience revolutionizing industries to connect carriers with shippers on its platform, and gives carriers upfront, transparent pricing and the ability to book a shipment. The segment also includes transportation management and other logistics services offerings.

Geographic Reach

Headquartered in San Francisco Bay Area, California, Uber's technology is available in over 70 countries around the world, principally in the US and Canada, Latin America, Europe (excluding Russia), the Middle East, Africa, and Asia (excluding China and Southeast Asia).

About 55% of the company's sales come from the US and Canada, more than 25% from Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA), more than 10% from Asia Pacific (APAC), and over 5% from Latin America (LATAM).

Uber Stats

- 10,000 cities

- 70 countries

- 161 million customers

- 7.8 million drivers

- 2.87 billion trips last quarter

- 31 million trips per day

Waymo Stats

- 5 cities

- 1 country: US

- 150,000 trips per week

- 21,429 trips per day

Uber is currently about 1,446 times larger than Waymo in terms of daily trips. While Waymo’s expansion into new markets like Miami may create some competition, Uber’s massive scale, global presence, and daily trip dominance make it unlikely that Waymo will quickly overtake Uber as the leader in the ride-hailing industry anytime soon.

Google has also burned more than $20 billion so far and is taking losses on the $200k+ Jags it uses as its driverless vehicles. Eventually it will have to partner with a company like UBER, LYFT, TSLA, HTZ, or CAR for the software only business model to work at scale.
